Davis Junior Ultimate Invitational 2007

On the weekend of November 17th-18th, the team traveled to Davis, CA to compete in the Davis Junior Ultimate Invitational. The tournament was held on the campus of UC Davis, hosted by the Davis Disc Dawgs. The team gained experience the hard way, but everyone showed excellent spirit while getting spanked. Nowhere to go from here but upward, right?

One highlight of the tournament was the valiant Coach Schneider playing several points against the evil Coach Schneider of Terra Nova HS's Diskfunctional. After the tournament, several players asked whether Scot was my older or younger brother (that's gotta sting a bit!) Other highlights included Adam throwing our first goal of the season and Eric going nearly 90% (both throwing and catching).

Lei-Out 2008

On the weekend of January 18th-20th, the team took a very long road trip to sunny Santa Monica, CA to compete in Lei-Out 2008, a beach Ultimate tournament hosted by the L.A. Organizaion of Ultimate Teams. Accompanying us was one of our esteemed alumni, Alicia Stillwell, whose grandmother graciously put us up for the weekend. The weather was AWESOME and we were inspired by the spirited and athletic play going on all around us. Highlights included burying Anthony in the sand, numerous sandy layouts, cold showers, sandy pizza, Aaron and Jake not killing each other as they came together to catch an ugly hammer in the end zone thrown by their coach, sandy shorts, Fat Burgers, and Chris face planting in the end-zone sand for a score. The team even set a record for their point differential in pool play!

Meatfest 2008

On Saturday, March 8th, the team traveled to Alameda, CA to compete in Meatfest 2008. The tournament was held in Alameda, and hosted by the Alameda Community Learning Center's Dark Meat. The food was very meaty, but they even had veggieburgers for me. We didn't do as well as we did the previous year.

Redwhirled 2008

After Meatfest, we drove to Larkspur to stay the night at Redwood HS Coach Ron Rosano's house. The Rosano hospitality truly knows no bounds! He and his lovely wife treated us to a great BBQ, excellent music, and even late night films. We had an exciting game against Redwood HS's B team, losing by only one point. My brother Scot and I subbed in a bit during ATC's game against his team, Terra Nova's Diskfunctional. This basically ruined any chance we had at being competitive as Scot and his players pretty much spanked my butt up and down the field - sorry guys! At least we ended up winning the Spirit Award, which was a set of T-shirts that Redwood had tie-dyed by hand - awesome!

California State HS Championships 2008

On the weekend of April 26th-27th, the team traveled to Pleasanton, CA to compete in the California State Championships. The high point was probably that silly game we played with the water bottle. The low point actually came after the tournament, when the van got ripped off (again) while we were eating dinner in Davis. My computer was stolen, but (far worse) so were my Special Relativity lesson plans (my only copy, of course). I'm sure my life is much better than the one the thief has chosen.

Grass Burn 2008 - Frontier Frisbee

On the weekend of May 17th-18th, the team hosted their 6th annual Grass Burn tournament. We went with a Western theme, but the blitering heat prevented us from wearing our lovely felt vests (thanks Shari!) for longer than the first few points. We got a lot more use out of the cowboy hats!

The finals were an exciting repeat of the previous year, once again pitting my brother's team, Terra Nova HS's Diskfunctional against the local pickup team (who had won both of the previous two tournaments, and last year by only a single point). Scot's team prevailed in the end, but we awarded the trophy to Castro Valley HS's The Red Hand, as they were the highest-placing team comprised of all high school players. Air Traffic Control also surprised a mostly Redwood HS team to make it into the semi-finals, our highest finish yet!
